The Learn Canola website is run by the Alberta Canola Producers Commission. The commission was founded in 1989, and was the province’s first refundable checkoff producer organizations. The mission of Alberta Canola is to support the long-term success of canola farmers in Alberta through research, extension, consumer engagement, and advocacy.

The Alberta Canola Producers Commission is funded by a refundable $1.00 per tonne service charge paid by canola farmers in Alberta when they sell their canola. All decisions regarding the Alberta Canola Producers Commission are made by a Board of Directors.

The Commission Supports:

  • Increasing agriculture and food literacy of consumers and future decision-makers which is key to building public trust, increasing domestic and global market share, and maintaining a strong, sustainable agricultural sector.
  • Developing fact-based agricultural content and resources to help educators and students understand how farmers grow canola, its uses and benefits, and its significant economic contribution.
  • Advocating for agriculture to be included in Alberta’s education curriculum and programs of study across all grades and applicable subjects, and to assist with curriculum development.
